Background

RTL Belgium is a leading French-speaking multimedia company. Apart from their commitment to delivering high-quality content, RTL Belgium has also always been at the forefront of innovations in media tech. Naturally, when RTL Belgium decided to revamp their radio studios, they were looking for solution providers who could share their view on software-driven virtual radio workflows.

Challenge

The infrastructure of RTL Belgium involved an overwhelming amount of screens and buttons, which significantly impacted the overall performance of news presenters. Before news went live, they had to spend an excessive amount of time on technical aspects of news production: multitasking between different tools, various screens, and pressing right button combinations. As a result, such routine tasks pushed the creative aspect of the job to a lower priority.

RTL Dream

RTL Belgium dreamed of a seamlessly integrated digital infrastructure that would liberate their news presenters from the burden of navigating a complex web of screens and buttons. They wanted to set up a workspace where technical complexity did not overshadow the creative essence of news production. They wanted to empower their presenters with a user-friendly platform that streamlined and automated operations, allowing them to focus on the content and storytelling, liberated from the need to juggle multiple tools and button sequences.

How Pluxbox made the dream come true

At RTL Belgium, Pluxbox transformed the way news reporting happens. We firmly believe that personalisation and user-friendliness are defining elements of reaching a streamlined performance for media workflows.

  • Streamlined News Preparation: The news presenters now craft their news bulletins directly within OpenMedia newsrooom system. Here, they create talk text items and prepare audio assets. Just before the news bulletin goes live, the news reader simply hits a single button to export the news to the playout system. This action automatically organises and inserts all talk items into the appropriate news blocks.

  • Effortless Export: Just before the news bulletin goes live, the news reader simply hits a single button to export the news to the playout system. This action automatically organises and inserts all talk items into the appropriate news blocks.

  • Instant Access: As the news bulletin begins, all the assets are seamlessly and automatically loaded into the playout system's cardwall. This means the news presenter has quick and easy access to everything for delivering a flawless and engaging broadcast.

  • Seamless Integration: All audio assets created in OpenMedia are seamlessly imported into the playout database, ensuring everything is at presenters' fingertips when needed.

  • Purpose-based System: To replace an inefficient multiscreen infrastructure, we implemented a system that offers personalised interfaces tailored to the user's specific purpose. Such a system streamlines performance for each role by providing only relevant content and functionalities for each user.

  • User-Friendly Interface: To further enhance the experience, we've integrated a Pluxbox workspace that displays the loaded text items in the rundown, making it a breeze for the news reader to follow along.

“We decided to jettison traditional production workflows and to develop an all-new approach. We can now attract the finest radio talent whose technical background has become all but irrelevant”
