Background

HvA Campus Creators, a dynamic platform at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA), empowers creative students to develop their skills, create innovative content, and connect with industry professionals. By fostering a collaborative environment, Campus Creators prepares the next generation of media professionals, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to excel in the ever-evolving media landscape.

Challenge

Two important digital offerings (Studieroutekaart and HvA Campus Creators) faced challenges related to the structure of its application, where both the front-end and back-end were hosted on a single server. This setup made it difficult to implement updates efficiently, as changes to one part of the system required adjustments to the entire application.

Furthermore, having a single developer responsible for both the front-end and back-end created a potential risk for future maintenance and continuity. The team needed a system that would allow easier updates and could be supported by multiple users, ensuring the system’s sustainability over the long term.

Solution

The implementation of Pluxbox Platform provided a comprehensive solution that transformed application architecture and development workflow for two essential digital resources: Studieroutekaart and HvA Campus Creators.

Designed solution enabled a clear separation between front-end and back-end systems, while offering an intuitive interface for managing data structures and application updates. Eventually, it helped teams to streamline the development process and maintainabilit

How Pluxbox made the difference

  • Separation of Back-end and Front-end: Pluxbox enabled the decoupling of the back-end from the front-end, allowing independent updates without disrupting the entire application. This made it easier to implement changes reducing downtime for end-users.

  • Streamlined and Instant Updates: Just before the news bulletin goes live, the news reader simply hits a single button to export the news to the playout system. This action automatically organises and inserts all talk items into the appropriate news blocks.

  • Pluxin-powered Automations: Pluxbox’s Pluxins facilitated seamless integrations with external services like Azure, AWS, and Markup. These ready-made integrations allowed the HvA team to create tailored functionalities such as automated email notifications and efficient content management.

  • Collaborative Support and Continuity: Pluxbox enabled multiple users to manage the back-end, reducing reliance on a single developer. With Pluxbox’s support team available for assistance, the project benefitted from continuous, reliable operations, even during developer absence.

“It's easy to update the back-end, from data structure changes to visual tweaks, even with our small team. With no time for extensive testing, bugs were fixed quickly as the admin area was live, and updates were instant”
